The Port Authority
Obligations of the Port of La Rochelle
An Order by the Prefect divides the port into 3 IPs (Port Installations).  The Port Authority is in charge of the safety of the port and more specifically the IP03 which includes the areas of the wet dock, the Port Mole, Chef de Baie,
l’anse de Saint Marc and the whole of the contiguous storage areas.

At each harbour installation, the objective assigned by the regulation is the improvement of the overall level of safety of the port.

This improvement goes through the stage of development and application of a safety plan   which includes:
- Control of access to port installations and prevention of intrusion.
- Management of interface with the ship (consistency in the levels of safety, management of sea-going personnel, ship ordnance and supplies...).
- Port monitoring and making secure sensitive areas by preventing damage and theft.
- Awareness of personnel and harbour companies.
- Ability to increase the level of safety in an area according to a particular context.
- Coordination of safety of the harbour participants:  State department, owners of harbour installations, Port companies, outside firms intervening in the port.
